5 Tips for a Stress-Free Photoshoot with Your Kids
I know how stressful it can be to get everyone ready for a photoshoot. The thought of trying to corral your little ones and get everyone to look picture-perfect can feel overwhelming. But trust me, with a little prep and the right mindset, you can totally rock it and end up with some beautiful memories that you'll cherish forever.
Here are five tips to make your photoshoot with the kids a stress-free experience:
1. Talk About It Beforehand
A little prep can go a long way. Have a chat with your kids before the shoot, and let them know what to expect. Tell them it’s a fun time to take pictures and that you’re all going to have a blast together.
Setting the right vibe can ease any nerves, and they’ll feel more comfortable going into it. If they’re old enough, maybe even make them part of the process—let them pick out their favorite outfits or talk about what they’re excited about for the session.
2. Make It Fun!
I can’t stress this enough—let it be fun! You don’t need to worry about everyone being perfect or posed. Kids are best when they’re allowed to be themselves, so let them play, explore, and just be little goofballs!
If they’re running around or laughing with each other, those moments are pure gold. A great photographer will capture those authentic moments that show their personalities and your family’s true dynamic.
3. Bring Snacks and Comfort Items
You’d be amazed at how much a snack or a favorite stuffed animal can help settle everyone. Keep some snacks on hand to keep those little tummies happy (and to keep the energy up).
If your kiddo has a comfort item, like a favorite blanket or toy, bring it along to help them feel secure. The more comfortable they feel, the better the photos will turn out.
4. Pick Outfits the Night Before
This is a big one! The last thing you want is to be rushing around the morning of the shoot, trying to find matching outfits that everyone is happy with. Pick out clothes the night before—something comfortable and weather-appropriate.
Avoid anything too itchy or tight because that’s just going to lead to meltdowns. If you want to match, great! Just don’t stress about being too matchy-matchy. Coordinating colors or styles works best.
5. Be Flexible and Go With the Flow
Kids are unpredictable—and that’s okay! Sometimes, they’ll want to run in the opposite direction, or maybe one will refuse to smile. Don’t sweat it. Some of the best photos come from those unexpected moments, so embrace the chaos.
Let your photographer guide you through it, and don’t worry about everything being perfect. It’s all about capturing the real, raw moments that make your family so special.
